Everything I bake when the air is swirling. crunchy and pumpkin bread that I repeat, cookies that smell like all season long, and cookies when people come over.
Fall is a long season in my kitchen. It starts on the first cool morning in September and doesn’t really stop until December, and this is the list I’m working through in order. Start at the top if you want the ones I make the most.
Start here, the ones I cook the most
Sit down and stay a while Apple Crisp it’s one, crunchy oatmeal topping, no fuss, good at eleven in the morning with coffee. Pumpkin bread with walnuts keeps for days and is somehow better on the second day. Apple Cinnamon Texas Sheet Cake This is what I do when someone says they are coming.

Autumn cookies
Taylor Swift’s Chai Sugar Cookies they’re the ones that light up my kitchen every fall, soft and full of real chai spice. Brown Butter Oatmeal Apple Cookies chewy with little pockets of soft apple. The new classic Snickerdoodle! it’s the scent of the whole season. And Best Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies they’re the ones I make when I don’t want to think about it.

Cakes when people come over
Brown Butter Pumpkin Texas Sheet Cake it’s huge, crazy and rides smooth. Perfect Cinnamon Bundt Cake! is that it makes the house smell like my parents in the fall, which is the highest compliment I have.

Weekend projects if you have time
Overnight Apple Fritter Focaccia is the show. You start it the night before and wake up for it and it’s worth every minute. Apple Butter and Cream Cheese Kolaches they’re the ones people ask about afterwards.

When you don’t want to turn on the stove
Pumpkin Spice Tiramisu No need for an oven at all and it looks like you tried a lot harder than you did. Candy Bar Blondies one bowl, one pan, and they eat the leftover Halloween candy, which is a service.

A breakfast that is frankly dessert
My best brown butter banana bread ever! and: Bread and Butter Bread Pudding both are here and I won’t pretend otherwise.
