Friends, good Sunday to you.
Here is this batch Pumpkin Cinnamon Rolls I’m going to put it in the oven. To be honest, I think they’re a bit over-proof, but somehow I don’t think that’s going to stop me from eating at least two. In other news, I’ve discovered a new respect for moms who jog with their babies in strollers. It’s a whole thing, isn’t it? So far I’ve managed not to trip over myself before a little 10k race in November (that I don’t plan on winning). In other words, I’m here staying very humble.
Here are this week’s five.
• My son John is almost six months old (you guys were right, time is a thief) and for the past few months of those six months I’ve been thinking a lot about capturing memories for our little family. I really hate the idea of all our family photos and memories living on my phone about everything. In fact, the last thing on my iPhone is the phone. It’s a lot of handheld/time down, but the problem remains. It inspired me to dig through my box of old film cameras, which seem exciting…if not gross and unpredictable. I’m currently working on this vintage hand-me-down Kodak Automatic 35 camera, and I still can’t tell if one shot is in focus, but I’m leaving anyway. I joined too Indie Film Lab for film sales and ultimately film development. So far, I’ve found that the easiest re-entry is into the world of film disposable film camera. They feel very low stakes but still produce some very fun photos and are easy to throw in my purse and whip out for a quick shoot. I’m also toying with the idea of keeping this little one Kodak film printer on hand for photos taken with my iPhone. One thing is certain. this is a long game. I’m open to any wisdom you can offer in this section.
• I’m not sure if you’ve made the transition from Apple Fall to Pumpkin Fall yet, and I certainly don’t want to rush you. I just want to casually mention that this Brown Butter Pumpkin Texas Sheet Cake nice this time of year (my favorite is the pecan glaze that goes on top of a warm cake) and these Perfectly comforting pumpkin muffins! which are amazing with a slice (yes, a slice) of cold cream cheese.
• Are you following? Pia Baroncini on Instagram: or Substack? I love her style. I love how she shares about her life and family. Vipers are flawless.
• Every September I’m tempted to buy a brand new trendy, sweater-heavy wardrobe and just happen to be a different person (coded very Gemini), but every year I… don’t. This year is no exception, except I want to bring in some trend-related pieces to work with my existing wardrobe (well, the part of my wardrobe that actually fits six months postpartum). I’ve heard that royal purple is having its moment, but that’s a little too theatrical for me. I love the royal blue and bold red that the girls called trendy. This 100% cotton sweater sapphire blue looks great for layering on milder fall and winter days. I love this squall packable raincoat in compass red. And I think this bold blue and red would pair well with the warm brown (this couple similar to one I have in my closet).
• Thank you so much for the encouragement and book recommendations last week. I’m totally into audiobooks to get me out of my podcast funk (I can’t seem to do podcasts right now) and, dare I say it, READ! I’m starting The Way of Tender Hearts by Annie Hartnett. (thanks Mary Beth!) and enter The Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon (thanks Margaret). I have too “All Mothers” by Domenica Ruta in my queue so I’m set for a few weeks.
